Clean Your Microwave…Naturally!

8 Apr

microwaveOver Easter, I was back home visiting my parents. Whenever I’m there, I revert back to my teenage self…suddenly I’m sleeping in (what a luxury!) and my PJ’s are my uniform of choice…it’s awesome. Unfortunately, I also manage to make a few messes (unintentionally.) One of them, was in the microwave; I thought I had covered up a bowl of chili, but sadly I did not. This lead to a volcano-like eruption, not cool! In the past, my microwave explosions took awhile to clean, which was SO frustrating. I mean, who wants to spend their day cleaning? Not this girl…

Fortunately, I knew how to clean it up quickly & chemical free! Here’s the recipe..

What you’ll need:

  • White Vinegar
  • Glass Measuring Cup or Bowl
  • Water

Here’s all you do:

  • Pour equal amounts of Water & Vinegar into glass cup/bowl (I use 1 cup of each)
  • Microwave for  6-10 minutes (depending on microwave power)
  • Remove cup/bowl
  • Wipe down with wet rag
  • High-Five someone…because dang that was easy!

My Favorite (baby) Things

5 Apr

baby-gift-and-printableCute & Creative baby shower gift, with free printable tags!

At my age, I have several baby showers to attend each year and coming up with a cool gift 20 times (slight exaggeration)  isn’t always easy. Luckily, I found this great idea that will make the process of putting together a creative gift much easier.  I love this because it sets the new momma up for success by having tried & true products plus it’s cute! I honestly had no idea what to register for when I was pregnant & I really appreciated my guests giving me products that they know work (in addition to all the tutus…those are also very necessary 😉

I saw this great idea over at My Sister’s Suitcase to put all of your favorite baby things together & label them with some cute, printable tags (they’re available on their page for free). There is only 1 minor downside…I will have the song “My Favorite Things” in my head for the rest of the day…the Momasaurus version anyway…

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Sippin on lattes while batting eyelashes
Wine on the weekends thank goodness it’s spring
These are a few of my favorite things 🙂

Happy Friday All!

DIY Natural Easter Egg Dye

30 Mar

NaturallyDyedEggs

In the spirit of Easter, I’m going to share how you can create your own natural egg dye using household ingredients. Now if making your own dye sounds scary, have no fear. The recipes I’m sharing don’t require many ingredients or steps.
Trust me, if the instructions were too elaborate, I wouldn’t be doing it myself….I have other things I want to do over Easter Break which may or may not include getting into some sweets 😉

Orange:  Bring 2 tablespoons paprika and 2 cups water to a boil in a pot.Boil for 5 minutes. Pour the colored liquid into a cup or bowl, and stir in 1 tablespoon vinegar.

Yellow: Bring 2 tablespoons turmeric and 2 cups water to a boil in a pot. Boil for 5 minutes. Pour the colored liquid into a cup or bowl, and stir in 1 tablespoon vinegar.

Brown: In a bowl, mix ¼ cup coffee granules and 2 cups of boiling water together. Add 1 tablespoon vinegar.

Lavender: Mix 1 cup grape juice and 1 tablespoon vinegar.

Blue Gray: Mix 1 cup frozen blueberries with 1 cup water, bring to room temperature, and remove blueberries.

Now too hard right? Happy Easter Weekend everyone!

Remove crayons from fabric

Microfiber1

Now that I’m a mom, I’m reliving the fun of coloring all over again. Just yesterday, my daughter and I had a hay day coloring a variety of interesting pictures in her coloring book. What interesting pictures might you ask? How about 2 pigs getting married? Kitty cats wearing high top shoes? A cow on the phone? You know, everyday pictures like that. (I guess that’s to be expected when you find it in the $1 bin, ha)

Coloring is fun but it’s not so fun when your child’s impressionistic artwork is now all over your couch and the “abstract’ they just drew wasn’t exactly the room makeover you had in mind. Luckily, there is a solution. This recipe comes from my lovely cousin Brooke. She has 2 adorable kiddos, seriously I’m not just saying that because we’re related, and she knows a thing or two about parenting.

So here it goes:

All you need is a hot, wet rag & some Dawn dish soap!

  • Wet the spot with just part of the hot rag.
  • Then get part of the rag soapy & rub the spot again (I gently rubbed in a swirling motion)
  • Then use the wet part again to rinse
  • Pat dry & air dry!!

I hope this helps those of you with toddlers 🙂

Thanks Brooke for this awesome tip!!!

DIY Natural Cleaner

25 Mar

labels

Since having my daughter, I  really try to use as many natural cleaning products as I can, so I don’t have worry about chemicals around her.  So today, I’m going to share a recipe that my friend Katie gave me for a natural cleaner that can be used on hard surfaces & windows.  Random note: Katie truly deserves an award (specifically a pageant sized trophy) for being my friend for over 25 years. She understands my ridiculousness &  I’m very blessed to have such an awesome friend.  In 2012 we shared another adventure, we became mommas.  I’m certain our kiddos will be fast friends just like Katie & I and  will get into shenanigans together, probably instigated by my little one 😉

Anyway, onto her recipe:

  • 1 Cup White Vinegar
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 8-10 Drops Tea Tree Oil
  • 1tsp Dr. Bronners Castille Soap

Note: At first windows may look cloudy, but just give it a minute to dry

No Speakers = No Problem

22 Mar

AmplifyPhoneI love jamming to my tunes on my phone,  but sometimes it’s just not loud enough (Side note, maybe I can’t hear it because I’m singing at the top of my lungs as if I’m trying out for American Idol? In my head, I sound like Mariah Carey. In reality, I sound like a howling coyote. 😉 )

But I digress…. Regardless of the reason you need it louder, this is a super easy way to amplify your phone without speakers:  Just put it in a bowl….Ta Da!! That’s literally all you have to do. How about that for a 1-step DIY?

Enjoy jamming to your tunes this weekend!
