DIY Natural Cleaner

25 Mar

labels

Since having my daughter, I  really try to use as many natural cleaning products as I can, so I don’t have worry about chemicals around her.  So today, I’m going to share a recipe that my friend Katie gave me for a natural cleaner that can be used on hard surfaces & windows.  Random note: Katie truly deserves an award (specifically a pageant sized trophy) for being my friend for over 25 years. She understands my ridiculousness &  I’m very blessed to have such an awesome friend.  In 2012 we shared another adventure, we became mommas.  I’m certain our kiddos will be fast friends just like Katie & I and  will get into shenanigans together, probably instigated by my little one 😉

Anyway, onto her recipe:

  • 1 Cup White Vinegar
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 8-10 Drops Tea Tree Oil
  • 1tsp Dr. Bronners Castille Soap

Note: At first windows may look cloudy, but just give it a minute to dry

Upcycle Cans for Birdfeeders

14 Mar

Cans have never looked so cute! What a creative idea…
Painted Cans+Ribbon=Birdfeeder

Now…just gotta get some actual bird feed, otherwise I’ll just have a bunch of cans hanging around my lawn.  Would that be considered dumpster chic or a poor mans wind chime?  😉 I dunno….Regardless, upcycling old junk into something useful is always a good thing, hooray.

DIY Moisturizing Lip Scrub

8 Mar

I posted a DIY Sugar Lip Scrub last month & wanted to share a variation that I found on theCHICagoLifeBlog.

I really like their recipe, it not only scrubs but also nourishes your lips & they feel great afterwards.

The CHICago Life’s DIY Lip Scrub & Softener calls for 3 ingredients:

  • Honey
  • Coconut Oil
  • Brown Sugar.

Here are the instructions:

  • Mix equal parts of all three ingredients together in a bowl. Make a small batch for a single use, or a batch to store in a sealed container for future use.
  • Exfoliate and nourish lips by rubbing the mixture in a circular motion.  For best results, take the scrub in the shower.  The steam helps soften the skin, and there’s no mess to clean up

SugarCollageHere’s my original post:

Lips Chapped?  No problemo! If you’re in a pinch (or if you simply wanna save some $$) just grab your sugar canister and get to scrubbing. It’s a “Sweet” solution 😉

  • Put damp finger in some sugar (white or brown will work)
  • Gently scrub on lips in a circular motion.

I’ve also used this on my legs & arms in place of my usual exfoliator & it worked great. When I’m all done, I just dab on some chapstick or coconut oil and I’m left feeling like smooth like my baby’s booty.

Both recipes work really well. I still use my 1 ingredient sugar scrub when I’m in a rush, but theCHICagoLife’s  recipe is great for when I want my lips to be super soft & nourished.

Enjoy!

Shoe Organizers for more than just shoes!

1 Mar

ShoeOrganizer2

Shoe Organizers are awesome..for so many reasons other than storing shoes!  I don’t have nearly enough closet/storage space in my home so I had to find some storage workarounds. One particular challenge came when we were preparing the nursery for my daughters arrival and  I realized that there was literally no place to put the gazillion baby supplies I had. When my fabulous mom came for a visit, she suggested I use a shoe organizer in her room to store her diapers etc.  Well, momma really does knows best, the organizer was the perfect solution for not only her diapers, but also her  lotion, powder and the rest of her baby stuff .  I like them so much, that I have a couple of these in different rooms of my house, to keep my supplies together and organized.
Here are some of the things can also be used for:

  • Cleaning supplies
  • Crafts
  • Pantry Items
  • Bathroom Supplies
  • Hair/Beauty Accesories
  • Jewelry

For more ideas, you can visit FrugalFreeGal, she has several photos with ideas of how to use them

Happy Organizing & Have a great weekend!

Get your Sheets Together

26 Feb

SHEETSI have a love/hate relationship with laundry. What I love is the smell of laundry, specifically the smell of the softener sheets coming from dryer when the load is tumbling.  What I do not love is when my joy is interrupted by the dryer’s buzzer going off; it is, what I refer to as, a joy goblin!!! When I hear that buzzer, it takes me back to when I was young,  playing the game Operation (Remember that game?!)  Hear me out: everything is going well…I think I could be a future surgeon and  then BUZZZZZ….I put his kidney where his heart should be. DANG IT!

The problem with the buzzer is that I relate it to the chore that is to follow; folding! Folding sheets & keeping them together is not a strong suit of mine. After I fold them, they look like they should be on their way to the thrift store donation bin, they’re all disheveled. Luckily, I found a way to disguise my horrible folding skills, for sheets anyway. I just put the sheets in one of the matching pillowcases. This really helps to keep them together & organized.

Now, if only I could find something to shove all my folded clothes in, I’ll be set 😉
